13. Invisible Theatre Augusto Boal Translated from French by Susana Epstein (1990) [P. 112-121]

P.112

  • I began doing 'Invisible theatre' in Argentina in 1971.
  • I have never participated in such a rich experience as the one in Liege, Belgium, in October 1978.

P.119

  • The Invisible Theatre never places itself in an illegal position, because it does not intend to violate the law. It intends to question the legitimacy of the law, which is a very different matter altogether.
  • This is precisely the importance of the Invisible Theatre (and of other Theatre of the oppressed techniques): the difference between the concepts of legality and legitimacy.
  • Theatre of the Oppressed techniques are meant to help the oppressed; they are actually their weapons of liberation.
