5. Theatre and The Media: Specificity and Interference [P.99-135]

  • P.99 Media might be defined by a sum of technical characteristics (possibilities, potentialities) according to the technological way in which the artistic product is produced, transmitted and received, reproducible to infinity.

Media in relation to theatre

  • minimalization, fundamental reduction to a direct exchange between actor and spectator. Media, on the other hand, tend towards complication and sophistication, thanks to technological development; they are by nature open to maximal multiplication.
  • If theatre relationships are to take place, however, the performance cannot tolerate more than a limited number of spectators or even performances because theatre repeated too often deteriorates or at least changes. As a result, there is 'in essence' (i.e. in its optimal made of reception) an art of limited range.
