I Personal Journey: The search for permanency (P. 21 - 23)

  • P.21 Alongside improvisation, the second major goal of the school concerns movement analysis. Movement is more than just a matter of covering the distance between points A and B. The important thing is how the distance is covered. The dynamics underlying my teaching are those of the relationship between rhythm, space and force.
  • I [Lecoq] have always favoured a teaching method that uses open mime. To mime is a fundamental action, the foundation of dramatic creation, not only for the actor, but also for writing and for performance.
  • P.22 To mime is literally to embody and therefore to understand better...miming is a way of rediscovering a thing with renewed freshness. The action of miming becomes a form of knowledge.
