Theatre Intercontinenetal: forms, functions, correspondences (Ed. C.C. Barfoot, Cobi Bordewijk, 1993)

Introduction: Forms, Functions and Correspondences in Theatre Intercontinental (P.7-9)

  • P.7 Most of the essays in this volume, but not all of them, developed from a series of lectures on the forms and functions of theatre in different cultures, and correspondences between them.
  • P.8 Brecht used the Chinese acting style since he hoped that its lack of 'realism' would keep the audience sufficiently uninvolved to be aroused to solidarity with Marxist revolutionary behaviour.
